The Quiet Car
A moment of contemplative reflection in an unusually quiet train waiting at Xindian Station 新店站, the Southern terminus of the Taipei Metro’s Green Line.
Actually, it was nothing of the sort – I just happened to be one of the first aboard and snapped this picture quickly of a solitary passenger who was already sat patiently waiting, before the tides of other commuters sluiced through to fill the void. You don’t get the context though, not unless I tell you. I could frame this sliver of time however I want – quiet reflection, sadness, peacefulness, ostracisation, whatever fits the visual narrative – the ultimate lie of the photographer.
